Three ways to book models

There are three main ways to book models and talent. The right one depends on your budget, schedule and how much your team can handle in-house.

Book directly through a model agency

You can look at member profiles and request people by name. With no intermediary there is only one contact, and terms get settled faster.

Note: the agency can only propose its own members. If the roster is small, you may not find someone who fits.

Use a casting company

They gather candidates from multiple agencies and freelancers. Useful when you want a single point of contact.

Note: there is an intermediary fee. Because they do not contract the talent directly, they may not know the person’s schedule or visa status.

Find talent yourself through open calls or social media

The lowest-cost option. Suits small internal shoots or content for your own social accounts.

Note: you have to check visa status, agree image rights and deal with same-day cancellations yourself. Take particular care when the content is for ads or other commercial use.

Liliana is the first of these: a model agency. Everyone we propose is our own member, so there is no intermediary fee. Because we interviewed them, checked their visa status at registration and know how they work on set, we can propose people with confidence. With a large roster, one contact can still cover a wide range of requirements.

About talent fees

Talent fees are not set by a fixed rate card. The same person can cost very different amounts depending on how the content is used. We base our quotes on the following conditions.

Booking hours

A standard day is 8 hours including breaks. Overtime is charged separately, and early-morning work before 6:00 and late-night work after 21:00 carry an additional surcharge.

Media

Where the content will run: TV commercials, transit and outdoor ads, magazines, web, social media and so on. The more media, the higher the fee.

Usage period

How long the content will be used. Six months on the web and a one-year nationwide campaign are priced very differently. We do not accept buyouts without a set period.

Territory

Whether the content is used in Japan only or overseas as well. Expanding the scope later costs extra, so we recommend deciding at the start.

Category exclusivity

If the talent must not appear in competitors’ ads during the contract, a surcharge applies. Let us know which industries the exclusivity should cover.

Career

Fees also depend on experience and profile. Under the same conditions, a newcomer and a long-established member will have different fees.

Even if your project isn’t finalized, tell us your expected conditions and we will give you a rough estimate. For payment and cancellation terms, see our FAQ.

What we take care of

Visa and work permission checks

We check every member’s visa status and work eligibility when they register, so you don’t need to check again. For members on student visas, we confirm their permission to work outside their status and schedule them so they stay within the weekly limit on working hours.

Visa status when hiring international models and talent

Interpreters

If talent can’t work in Japanese, we provide an interpreter. Everything from sharing the shooting schedule in advance to direction on the day can go through the interpreter.

Large groups and regional shoots

We book large groups, including extras, and support shoots outside Tokyo. Any travel or accommodation costs are included in the quote.

Booking and schedule management

Our staff handle scheduling, call times and all communication on the day. You don’t need to contact the talent directly.

Minors

Minors appear only with parental consent and a guardian present, and we schedule them within the limits of the Labor Standards Act. Shooting hours are agreed with you for each project.

Conduct on set

We do not accept shoots involving blackface or other racially exaggerated portrayals. We also ask that the term “gaijin” not be used on set or in scripts.

From request to shoot day

1

Contact us

Tell us the project outline, shoot date, media and budget. It’s fine if some items aren’t decided; we can help you work out the direction.

2

Candidate proposals

We send profiles of members who match, along with a rough quote. If they’re not what you had in mind, we revise the criteria and propose again.

3

Hold and selection

We put a provisional hold on the shoot date, then select by profile review or audition. The time needed depends on the size of the project, so we agree the schedule at the first consultation.

4

Confirmation and contract

We finalize the terms, media, period, territory and schedule. NDAs can be signed on your template or ours.

5

Shoot day

Our staff or an interpreter can attend the shoot if needed. For shoots outside Tokyo, we can also arrange travel and accommodation.

For details on each step, see How It Works; for the talent’s terms, see our Performance Guidelines.

Our work

Our members have appeared in TV commercials, drama, streaming productions, music videos, apparel catalogs, web ads and more. See our works page for examples by media.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I contact you?
It depends on the project. Projects decided by profile review alone can move quickly, but please contact us early if you need auditions or a large cast. We also take urgent projects, so start by telling us your preferred shoot date.
Can you book talent for shoots outside Tokyo?
Yes, we cover all of Japan. From our base in Akasaka, Tokyo, we send members to regional shoots. Any travel or accommodation costs are included in the quote in advance.
Do I need to check international models’ work eligibility?
No. We have already checked the visa status and work eligibility of all our members. For details, see about visa status.
Can we work with models who don’t speak Japanese?
Yes. We can arrange an interpreter on set. Everything from sharing the schedule to direction on the day can go through the interpreter, so talent who don’t speak Japanese can shoot without problems.
Can you book large groups such as extras?
Yes. We book from one person to large groups. Let us also know the breakdown by number and nationality and how you want check-in and the day to run.
Can I ask for advice even if I haven’t decided who to cast?
Yes. Tell us about your product or service, who you want to reach and where the content will run, and we will suggest a casting direction. We can also propose several sets of candidates from different angles.
Can I contact a member I’m interested in directly?
Please don’t contact talent directly. Our staff handle all schedule and terms checks.
